Typeface design

Adelgade is a serif typeface with simple yet distinct characters, inspired by the hand-drawn lettering on street signs in the Nyboder district of Copenhagen, Denmark.

The name, Adelgade, comes from one of the streets in Nyboder, which translates literally to "Nobility Street."

The Nyboder district in Copenhagen, Denmark. The barracks-turned-row-houses were planned and first built by Christian IV in 1631 to accommodate the rapidly growing Royal Danish Navy and their families.
